In 1942, Annette Funicello was born in Utica NY. She relocated with her family to Southern California when Annette was four years old. In the 1950’s, she broke into the national spotlight as a star on The Mickey Mouse Club television show. In the 1960’s Funicello was featured in a series of beach movies, and she remained in the public spotlight in the seventies and eighties.
In 1992, Annette publicly disclosed that she was battling multiple sclerosis, a serious illness. In discussing her situation, Annette explained, “I think you only have two choices in this kind of situation. Either you give in to it or you fight it. I intend to fight.” The rest of us, whatever the nature of our burdens or challenges, are wise to do likewise.
Annette’s philosophy on life wass straightforward: She said “Life doesn’t have to be perfect to be wonderful.” The following notable and quotable people agree.
When Times Are Tough, Don’t Give Up!
First, remember that no matter how bad a situation is, it’s not as bad as you think.
Don’t give up at half time. Concentrate on winning the second half.
You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it.
Inside of a ring or out, ain’t nothing wrong with going down. It’s staying down that’s wrong.
There is no normal life that is free of pain. It’s the very wrestling with our problems that can be the impetus for our growth.
Character is not revealed when life shows its best side, but when it shows its worst.
Fulton J. Sheen
If you want the rainbow, you’ve got to put up with a little rain.
People who do what is right may have many problems, but the Lord will solve them all.
Psalm 34:19 NCV
