In 1942, Annette Funicello was born in Utica NY. She relocated with her family to Southern California when Annette was four years old. In the 1950’s, she broke into the national spotlight as a star on The Mickey Mouse Club television show. In the 1960’s Funicello was featured in a series of beach movies, and she remained in the public spotlight in the seventies and eighties.
In 1992, Annette publicly disclosed that she was battling multiple sclerosis, a serious illness. In discussing her situation, Annette explained, “I think you only have two choices in this kind of situation. Either you give in to it or you fight it. I intend to fight.” The rest of us, whatever the nature of our burdens or challenges, are wise to do likewise.
Annette’s philosophy on life wass straightforward: She said “Life doesn’t have to be perfect to be wonderful.” The following notable and quotable people agree.
