The Gateway Arch in Saint Louis is over 60 stories tall! The arch is part of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial, a national park. The arch was built to honor the pioneers who helped settle the western states. The arch is sometimes known as the Gateway to the West.

In 1947 and 1948, an architect named Eero Saarinen won a contest for the design of his arch, which would later become the main attraction for the park. But construction of the arch did not begin until 1959. Finally, in 1965, it was finished. So it took almost 20 years to design and build the Gateway Arch. It took a long time, but it was worth it.

If you visit the arch, you can take a tram (it’s like an elevator) all the way to the top. From there, you can see the nearby Mississippi River, one of the largest rivers in the world. And, on a clear day, you can see thirty miles in each direction!

Keep Trying!

Just don’t give up trying to do what you really want to do. Where there is love and inspiration, I don’t think you can go wrong.
Ella Fitzgerald

My motto was always to keep swinging.
Hank Aaron

Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is to always try just one more time.
