Albert Einstein was the greatest scientist of the 20th century and one of the greatest scientists of all time. He came up with many new ideas that changed the way we think about time, space, distance, and light.

Einstein’s most famous formula was one you’ll be hearing about for the rest of your life. When Professor Einstein wrote that formula on his blackboard, it probably looked something like this:

To pronounce the formula, you say, “E equals M C squared,” So what does it mean? It means that a lot of energy is stored up in a very small amount of stuff. This simple formula unlocked the secret of nuclear power and changed the world forever. And it was discovered by a very smart man who spent his final in Princeton, New Jersey.

Fun Fact: If Albert Einstein hadn’t been a scientist, he might have been a musician because he loved to play the violin.

Fun Fact: In 1905, Einstein wrote four papers, each of which probably should have earned him a Nobel prize. His discoveries during that year were so amazing that scientists now have a name for the year 1905. They call it Einstein’s “Annus Mirabilis,” which is Latin for “Extraordinary Year.”

Fun Fact: Einstein is responsible for the famous “Theory of Relativity.” Technically, that theory has two parts: the Special Theory of Relativity (which came first), and the General Theory of Relativity (which Einstein considered his most important achievement).

Fun Fact: Although he probably should have won four or five Nobel prizes, Albert Einstein was only given one, which he received 1921.
